Unwinding After a Long Day

Nothing like a satisfying fake beer to relax after a long hard, twelve hour day at the office.

Things My Father Taught Me

My father used to tell me when I was in my late teens and early twenties something along the lines oft:

If you want to get anything in life done, son, you need to get up and out of bed at 7 AM. The world starts moving at 8!

In those days, I ignored him and figured I’d just make my own rules up, making people bend to my will whenever I chose to get out of bed. The problem with that was that I began to realize he was right. After 8 am, when you start going places, you have to wait in line, and cars start to get in your way.

Now I realize it wasn’t some ridiculous, arbitrary statement he made for fun.  My regular routine now includes arising at 5 AM daily, and getting to work shortly after 6 AM. Guess what? Things get done, and no one starts bugging me until 8!

Thanks, pops. Even though I ignored it for about twelve years, I came to my senses and see your point was valid.

Rob Sells Out: Part I

July 27, 2008 · Filed Under Fatherhood · 2 Comments

I suppose if I’m not doing it for money, then I’m not really “selling out,” but it sounds much better than “Rob writes a review of a product in exchange for a free sample of that product: Part I.” Agreed?

Last week, I was contacted about trying a Schick Quattro Titanium razor for free. In exchange, I would be able to write a review of the product on this site. After a few e-mail exchanges to help me understand a bit more about this barter, I agreed to participate. Since this particular dad shaves, and happens to have a dad blog, it seemed like a good fit.

I decided to make it a small series with an introduction, followed by a beginning, middle and end. This post is the introduction, so there will be more to follow. Enjoy as I sell my soul to the man.
