Carded at 32
Tonight, the family and I went out to dinner with a gang of eight other friends. I was very surprised, but extremely flattered, to be asked for my ID. Since I’m thirty-two, with a birthday coming up in August, I was delighted by this request. As dinner came to a close, I asked our server very politely if she wouldn’t mind posing with me while she held my ID. As I’m only getting older, I thought this was one of the last times I would be asked for ID. Before tonight, it had been years, so I thought the moment should be captured on camera. Kandis and the server graciously agreed to the proposal, which was really a bit ridiculous.
Thanks to our wonderful waitress and my most lovely wife for agreeing to this goofball stunt!
I might add that Cooper was just to my left in this picture. In an effort to preempt any criticism of our parenting abilities, I will say that no toddlers were psychologically damaged while this photo was being taken. Any criticism — especially that from the extreme right wing — will be placed in our circular file with the utmost care.

Wow, that is great. I look young for my age too and can remember being carded in my early 30’s but sadly those days have long since passed. I guess 40 is not the new 21. Kudos to Kandis for being a good sport too.
James, I work with a woman who is in her early forties and still gets ID’s on occasion. She said she thanks the server every time. To her credit, she does look like she’s in her early thirties, and I was shocked when she told me the truth.
I just got a haircut this weekend, so that may have had something to do with it!
