Daddy!

What’s the most effective way to end a stressful day of work? It used to be going out and having a few beers with the guys and shooting a few rounds of pool. Some nights, it was a simple matter of coming home and vegetating, and perhaps a little cogitating, or perhaps some coalescing whilst eating pizza. While those activities can still be fun, they don’t quite cut it anymore.

My post-work activities start with a stop by day care to pick up Cooper. As I head out back to pick him up, he runs towards me in that special toddler way, as fast as his little legs will let him. He can’t contain his smile, and if his small face would allow him to, he’d give me an even bigger smile. I’m now starting to understand a child’s love for his or her parents. It is uninhibited, unconditional, and pure. That kind of love will melt away anything else you thought was important.

Check the Menu

Today, Kandis reminded me that we should probably start checking the menu that’s offered at our local daycare facility. Today, the young man had macaroni and cheese, served with peas.

For dinner, he had macaroni and cheese with a side of peas and carrots. Damned his father for not reading that menu. Poor Cooper had two meals with peas, and that’s not right. Cooper, I wouldn’t tolerate that kind of nonsense for two of my meals, and you certainly don’t have to. Next time, I expect an uprising.

We were lucky he only threw his spoon on the floor once.

Breaker, Niner. Need an Electrician. Over.

Today, I tried to do what seemed a simple task: change out a light switch. The objective was to install a timer in place of the light switch that controls the light that illuminates our front walkway. The second switch at that panel controls the indoor light at the entrance and was to remain unaffected. I was careful to follow the instructions and turn off the breaker before beginning. Everything went relatively smoothly, and I was feeling confident with the results. The inner light turned on and off perfectly, so it appeared I hadn’t screwed up anything. That illusion was short-lived, however, when I tried to turn on the rest of the lights and appliances on that circuit. Not a thing worked. Disappointed, I restored everything back to its original state, hoping that would fix the situation. Naturally, it did not. Why would it?

Later, Kandis discovered that outside porch light was on and flipping the switch had no effect on its state. Insert laughter here. We now have an outdoor light that’s always on.

Here’s the kicker: that very same switch that appears to do nothing, has apparently become a breaker. When it’s flipped on, everything on that circuit works as it should. We made that discovery this evening when I was flipped the light switch on and off to see if anything had changed, and Kandis noted that the bedroom light came on. I’m either that bad, or that good.
